TheHall-type wheel speed sensor is made using the principle of Hall effect. The Hall-type wheel speed sensor has also been widely used in automobiles, and has the following characteristics: the output signal voltage amplitude value is not affected by the rotation speed; the frequency response is high; Strong anti-electromagnetic wave interference ability. Thesensor is mounted at a specific gap from a toothed reluctor ring. As the teeth pass by the wheel speed sensor, it changes the magnetic field and produces alternating current or AC voltage. The AC voltage can be seen by a scope as a sine wave. The voltage signal will increase in amplitude with an increase in the speed of the reluctor ring.
Thewheel speed sensor is responsible for relaying the wheel speed to the ECU so that it can tell the ABS system how much pressure to safely apply. When the wheel speed sensor is broken or not working as it should, one of the first things that are affected is the ABS system.

Likeany other speed sensor, a speed sensor can be an inductive sensor (magnet with a wire coil surrounding it) that produces an AC analog wave, or it can be digital, which produces a square wave. Some wheel speed sensors are designed to detect whether the vehicle is moving forward or backward. Thewheel speed sensor, also known as the vehicle speed sensor (VSS), is a SENSOR used to measure the steering of the car wheels. Commonly used wheel speed sensors are: magnetoelectric wheel speed sensors and Hall effect wheel speed sensors.
Thereare two different types of wheel speed sensors, active and passive. Before you can diagnose a suspected faulty wheel speed sensor, you need to have a good understanding of the type of sensor
